For over 50 years, the Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District has served the community through its stewardship of parks, and by providing recreational and cultural programs to Islanders of all ages.
The Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park & Recreation District manages parks, recreation facilities, and community programs on Bainbridge Island, Washington. It oversees 1,600 acres of parkland with over 44 miles of trails, a recreation center for fitness and racquet sports, and an aquatic center for swimming and events.
The Park District is committed to providing a wide variety of leisure programs for all ages and interest groups including senior citizens and persons with disabilities. The recreation program is supported in a major way by user fees with your class fees being subsidized by tax dollars.
The Park District works in partnership with non-profit agencies such as the Bainbridge Island Land Trust and the Bainbridge Island Parks Foundation.
Core Offerings
The district provides diverse activities including camping at Fay Bainbridge Park, which features 14 campsites, 26 RV sites, five cabins, and ADA-accessible options along 1,420 feet of shoreline with Puget Sound views. Registration for programs like winter sessions opens for residents on December 9 and non-residents on December 11, covering opportunities for all ages.
Governance and Events
Board meetings occur on the first and third Thursdays monthly at 6:00 pm, with options for in-person attendance at Strawberry Hill Center or remote via Zoom and phone. The organization pursues capital projects and sustainable stewardship to foster community health through parks and innovative recreation.
