About This Event:

Got a mystery apple? Or do you just want to confirm that the apple tree you think you have is what you really have? Then make plans to come to the next meeting of the Bainbridge Island Fruit Club and talk with Lori Brakken, apple ID expert and landscape designer, to find out.

Working with experts in the field and attending numerous fruit shows, Lori assembled a large collection of apple photos, which she has incorporated into an automated system for ID-ing apples. Lori will be providing a brief overview of “how to” techniques for identifying apple varieties and will answer questions and help identify any mystery apples that you bring to the meeting. If you’re bringing your unknown apples, please bring 3 to 5 apples that are unwashed, right off the tree and representative of what all the apples on the tree look like. Keep them in a dry paper bag in the refrigerator until you leave for the show.

In addition to being an apple indentifying whiz, since 2000, Lori has been an active member of the Western Cascade Fruit Society as well as former President of the Seattle chapter. Lori’s apple-ID website is

But wait… There’s more!

This meeting is also the BIFC’s annual fall fruit show where you’ll be able to taste test dozens of types and varieties of currently ripening fruit. If you want to plant a new tree, bush, or vine this will be your opportunity to try-it-before-you-buy-it! Don’t miss this once a year event.
