About This Event:

A benefit for Bainbridge Island Historical Museum: Join humanities scholar and author Clay Jenkinson for a lecture and presentation on Edward S. Curtis (1868-1952), the American photographer and ethnologist from Washington State whose work focused on the American West and Native American peoples. While portraying Curtis, Clay will discuss the photographer’s life and work, as well as some of the more controversial issues around it, such as cultural appropriation and divulging of cultural secrets. A working model of the camera Curtis once used will be employed to demonstrate techniques of lantern slide photography, bringing the famed photographer’s talent and inspirational work to life once again.
