Description
Ever wanted to try rowing?
Maybe step away from screens for a few hours, breathe a little deeper, and experience the calm of Eagle Harbor from right on the water. Rowing is one of the rare sports that strengthens your body, clears your mind, and connects you to a team all at once — and Bainbridge Island Rowing is excited to welcome new adults into the sport.
We believe rowing changes lives through teamwork, relationships, community, and the simple serenity of being out on the water. Our Adult Learn to Row programs run three times a year, with an optional winter Learn to Erg for anyone who wants a head start.
Longtime BIR coaches Kathy Maher and Barb Shane invite you to share in their love of rowing during a two‑week Learn to Row program in 2026. Each cohort begins with a boathouse orientation and a float test at the Aquatic Center. A weekend intensive on our training barge kicks off two weeks of on‑water learning in the protected beauty of Eagle Harbor.
Graduates of Learn to Row are invited to continue into our 12‑week Adult Novice program before joining the full Adult Team. New rowers also receive a generous discount on annual rowing fees to support their transition into the BIR community.
Whether you’re looking for a new challenge, a mindful break from daily life, or a way to connect with others on the island, Learn to Row is the perfect place to begin.
See you on the water!
