Description
Nikki Jabbora-Barber’s art re-examines female characters from stories passively internalized in childhood through a queer, mixed race lens.
Symbols representing her heritage, alongside Greek mythology and pop culture references cover her woodblock self-portraits.
She uplifts and adds to the collective story of thousands of women’s voices that came before hers – many that were silent or silenced throughout history and today.
Nikki will share her work and speak to these themes in conversation with BIMA’s Education & Community Engagement lead, Jenna d’Anna. Audience Q&A and reception to follow.
