Description
BECU — the largest not-for-profit credit union in the Pacific Northwest — officially opened its first Bainbridge Island location on February 10, 2026, marking its second brick-and-mortar branch in Kitsap County.
The new “Neighborhood Financial Center,” located in the High School Road NE shopping plaza between Safeway and Great Clips, brings full-service banking to the island with a modern, teller-free design. The branch features two ATMs and private rooms for in-person consultations or “video banking,” where members can meet virtually with BECU specialists. The bright, open space — formerly home to Blo Blow Dry Bar — was thoughtfully redesigned to reflect Bainbridge’s welcoming, community-oriented character.
While this is BECU’s first physical branch on the island, the credit union has been active locally since 2023. The organization has partnered with IslandWood for employee teambuilding, donated $10,000 to Helpline House in 2025, and hosted volunteer service days to support local nonprofits. As part of its broader mission, BECU granted $8.1 million to nonprofits across the Pacific Northwest last year.
Originally founded as Boeing Employees’ Credit Union, BECU today serves more than a million members and offers a wide range of financial services, including savings and checking accounts, home equity lines of credit, personal loans, low-rate credit cards, and free financial counseling through GreenPath. Home equity lines and debt consolidation options are expected to be particularly popular with local members as interest rates shift and households look for ways to simplify and reduce borrowing costs.
Since opening, the Bainbridge branch has already welcomed dozens of members and many more who stopped in to express their excitement about having BECU on the island.
With its community-first model and expanded local presence, BECU aims to build lasting partnerships and support financial health initiatives throughout Bainbridge Island.
