Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island
Bloedel is the gardens — 140 acres of forest, meadows, and twenty-three designed landscapes on the north end of the island. It is the reason a lot of people put a car on the boat. It is not a walk from the ferry, and it is not a twenty-minute stop between shops.
Buy a timed-entry ticket before a sunny Saturday. Pair it with a real Winslow walk only if you have the hours. Island-wide clocks: visitor guide.

Tickets and hours
Bloedel uses timed entry so the gardens stay quiet and the lot has space. Buy online before you leave Seattle if you are driving. Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Last entry they suggest is 3:30 p.m. Closed Monday.
Stop at the gate. Guest services checks you in and tells drivers where to park — free, inside the property. The shop in the Gatehouse stays open until close.
Hours move for events and seasons. The official word is always bloedelreserve.org, not this page.
How long to spend
Plan at least two hours once you are through the gate. The loop is about two miles of bark, gravel, and paved road across 140 acres. You can walk a shorter piece. You cannot “do Bloedel” in the gap between a noon boat and a 2:30 return.
Arrive 90 minutes before closing or you will rush. Do not schedule Bloedel 90 minutes after a Sea-Tac landing. Airport to Winslow is often two and a half to four hours. Origin math: getting here.
Getting there from the ferry
Walk-off dumps you in Winslow. Bloedel is a different trip. About ten minutes north of downtown, in a neighborhood. From the terminal you stay on Hwy 305, then follow signs onto quieter roads. No freeway. 305 backs up when a boat dumps.
- Car. Worth putting a vehicle on the boat only if Bloedel (or beaches, or an overnight away from the dock) is the point of the day. This route has no car reservations. Summer weekends wait. Schedule and cameras.
- No car. Timed ticket plus BI Ride (Kitsap Transit — cheap, book ahead), a taxi, Uber, or Lyft. Request the ride before you want to leave. There is no taxi line in the garden lot.
- Sold out, on transit. If you arrive without a car and the online slots are gone, they will still sell you a ticket at the gate.
Once you are on the island: getting around.
Pets, picnics, the neighborhood
- No pets except service animals — not on the grounds, not in the parking areas.
- No picnics on the property. Eat in Winslow first, or after.
- Professional photo shoots need a permit.
- The last mile is residential. Pedestrians and cyclists. Slow down.
- Maps at the Gatehouse, trail start, and Residence. Accessibility guide on site. Translations include English, Spanish, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Hindi, and Urdu.
What else that day
Winslow + Bloedel is a full day if you do both properly. The Exclusion Memorial is a second ride, not a free extra. Poulsbo “since we are close” is how people miss the boat and decide they did not like Bainbridge.
Rain: still go. Light rain is fine on the paths. Street shoes on a mud slog are not. Jacket every month. First-visit stack without the garden: must-do.

FAQ
Do I need tickets for Bloedel Reserve?
Yes. Bloedel uses timed-entry tickets so the gardens and the parking lot stay calm. Buy ahead at bloedelreserve.org, especially on a sunny Saturday if you are driving. If they are sold out and you arrive on public transit, they will still sell you a ticket at the gate. Drive-up tickets, when available, cost a little more.
What are Bloedel Reserve hours?
Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Suggested last entry is 3:30 p.m. Closed Monday. Confirm on bloedelreserve.org before you sail — hours shift for events and seasons.
How long should I spend at Bloedel?
At least two hours on the grounds. The main loop is about two miles of bark, gravel, and paved paths across 140 acres. Arrive 90 minutes before close or you will rush the last gardens.
Can I visit Bloedel Reserve without a car?
Yes, with a timed ticket plus BI Ride, a taxi, Uber, or Lyft. It is about a ten-minute drive from Winslow, not a walk from the ferry. Request the ride back before you want to leave. Do not assume a car is waiting in the lot.
Are dogs allowed at Bloedel Reserve?
No, except service animals. Pets are not allowed on the grounds or in the parking areas. Leave the dog in Winslow or skip Bloedel that day.
Can I picnic at Bloedel?
No. No picnics on the property or in the parking areas. Eat in Winslow before you go, or plan lunch after.
Is Bloedel Reserve worth it on a Bainbridge day trip?
Yes if you already have a ride and at least three extra hours beyond Winslow. No if you are on a short walk-on clock. Do not stack Bloedel, the Exclusion Memorial, Poulsbo, and a tight last boat.
