What Are Some Popular Neighborhoods on Bainbridge Island?

Bainbridge Island is known for its charming, small town life (as compared to its big brother, Seattle) and the island’s downtown Winslow area where day-trippers usually visit.

But scattered throughout the island are many neighborhoods, each with its own look and feel, pro’s and con’s (which is a “pro” and which a “con” depends on who you ask).

  • Fort Ward. The “Sunny South End” as some call it. This neighborhood offers a colorful subdivision of family-oriented cul-de-sac’s and sidewalks, a grassy open space that was the former Parade Grounds, and Fort Ward Park situated down the hill and edging the waterfront. Paved roads and dirt trails make for easy exploring of this historic park and the public boat ramp keeps the south end’s fishermen happy, too!
  • Commodore & North Town Woods. These mid-island residential areas also provide the traditional neighborhood feel (and popular holiday lights displays) with sidewalks and many, newer craftsman-style houses, particularly in North Town Woods. Along with that know-your-neighbors friendliness, both these areas have that always desirable “walk-ability” to groceries, schools, shops and the public library as well as easy access to Highway 305.
  • Crystal Springs/Point White Drive. Take a beautiful southwesterly drive and you’ll see the residents on these waterfront roads and hillside enjoy gorgeous sunsets over Rich Passage, dog walking and fishing off the public Point White Pier. And if you follow Point White Drive around, you’ll land at the newly invigorated Pleasant Beach Village at Lynwood Center, complete with dining, shopping, market, wine bar and a historic movie theater. That’s convenience!
  • Wing Point. Centrally located, the Wing Point area has a traditional look and feel of a neighborhood containing some older, charming homes as well as newer custom builds. Wing Point also has close proximity to the ferry terminal for easy commuting and nearby Winslow businesses, as well as the Wing Point Country Club which has a golf course, outdoor swimming pool and many other member benefits.
  • The Spit. Drive north as far as you can on Bainbridge, then turn right and go farther to find the Spit. Here, on this narrow band of land, you’ll want plenty of canoe, kayak and paddleboard parking. These homes are so close to the water they feel like houseboats! As a bonus, neighbor Fay Bainbridge Park can stretch your backyard a few more acres with its beachfront area, playground and fun summer activities.

These are just a few samples of Bainbridge neighborhoods. And for those seeking more privacy or acreage, just about every corner of the island also offers wooded retreats, spacious farm and pasture land and peaceful waterfront options.

Come see for yourself the amazing choices this island holds for a home that will meet all your needs!
